1 Beecher's Island, Battle of
Произошла на р. Арикари [Arikaree River], шт. Колорадо, во второй половине сентября 1868 между южными шайеннами [ Southern Cheyenne] под предводительством Римского Носа [ Roman Nose] при поддержке оглала [ Oglala] во главе с вождем Несущий Смерть Пауни [Pawnee Killer] и рейнджерами полковника Форсайта [Forsyth Rangers] в количестве 50 человек. Атакованные индейцами, которых было около тысячи человек, рейнджеры отступили на остров. В первом столкновении погибли Римский Нос и лейтенант Бичер [Beecher, F. H.], а Форсайт был ранен. После нескольких попыток захватить остров индейцы взяли его в осаду, которая продолжалась 8 дней. Гонцам удалось выбраться с острова и вызвать подкрепление. Вождь южных шайеннов [ Southern Cheyenne] из клана Кривых копий [Crooked Lances]. Один из главных участников сражения у моста через р. Платт [ Platte Bridge Fight], проявил чудеса храбрости в сражении на р. Паудер [Powder River], названном в его честь [Roman Nose's Fight] (1865). В 1866 воодушевленный успехами Красного Облака [ Red Cloud] возглавил борьбу за прекращение использования американцами дороги, пересекавшей охотничьи угодья племени вдоль р. Смоки-Хилл [ Smoky Hill River], и уничтожение всех станций на ней. Отказался подписать договор, заключенный на ручье Медисин-Лодж [ Medicine Lodge Treaty] (1867). Был смертельно ранен в битве за остров Бичера [ Beecher's Island, Battle of] (1868)
